Joanna Martin and Greg Elliott Married!!

Welcome to a very special blog post!
Since Jo and Greg are currently honeymooning in Bali, Jo turned to me this week to write this update and share the wedding with you.  So, I’ve put on my best journalist’s hat to make you feel as if you were there too . . .

Firstly let’s start with the weather.  All weddings rely on mother-nature and this one relied on her more than most.  In the midst of a sodden summer, the sun Gods truly were smiling because as dawn broke on Saturday 15th January, the Tasmanian sky was a sheet of blue and the sun shone down making the island look even prettier than it was.  *Note if you’ve never been to Tassie – you must go!  What a gorgeous island.

Anyway I digress.  The ceremony was set for 4.30pm and at 4ish the guests started to gather in Princes Park in Hobart.  A string quartet played softly in the background, a handful of white seats were set out and the pimms was flowing.  There were about 80 guests in total, lots of family and a mixture of friends and Shift personnel.  Take a look at the photos because Joey and Greg loved the contrast of everyone’s dresses against the vivid green of the park.

At just gone 4, the groom showed up . . . looking great I have to say in a black Hugo Boss suit and a sexy black tie.  Accompanying him were his 2 brothers. As he took position the guests gathered around a lilac carpet and awaited the bride . . . 25 minutes later the bridal party arrived.  Jo’s 2 sisters, Kath and Emma, led the way along with Jo’s 2 year old niece, Charlotte.

And then came the bride!

Jo’s stepdad and dad walked her proudly down the aisle . . . and a beaming, beautiful and radiant Joanna looked absolutely overjoyed as she walked toward her soon-to-be husband.  For you ladies out there who want the details . . . Jo’s designer dress was an off white silk, with a ruched bodice with a sweetheart neck line and hand embroidered beads.  She had a ruffled halter-neck with a short train and a very fancy feathered head piece and net in her hair.

She looked amazing.

As they exchanged vows in a simple but touching ceremony, some of the guests were seen to shed tears (especially when Jo did!) and when the ring was slipped onto Jo’s finger and she could finally call herself Mrs Elliott, the guests whooped and cheered.

The new wedding ring matched her engagement ring perfectly.

The reception was just as gorgeous  . . . the wedding party sailed upriver to Moorilla Winery . . . and were entertained by some hilarious speeches and some more moving ones.  I asked Jo what her favourite moment of day was and she answered without hesitation that Greg’s speech was her best moment.  Greg, not usually the public speaker, made a beautiful speech to his new bride which brought tears to her eyes (and to most of ours!)

Joey and Greg specifically wish to thank all of you for all your support, love and wishes of good will.  Their wedding was not just for them, it was an opportunity for everyone to witness their union. Without the love of the Shift Community it would not have been the same and it makes them truly happy to know you were there with them in spirit.

So if you have a glass handy, raise it to Jo and Greg Elliott and toast their new marriage.

Love

Welcome to 2011!

Welcome to 2011!  I hope you had an amazing Christmas break and a fun New Year.  The holidays have passed so quickly and I can’t believe it’s the start of a new year and more importantly, only 10 days to our wedding!

This Christmas heralded the start of a new dawn . . . the patter of tiny feet.  No, not our own!  At least not just yet.   But this Christmas was a happy portent for Christmasses to come!  At Greg’s brother’s house on Christmas day we had the pleasure of Charlotte, Greg’s 2 year old niece, and then at dinner at my dad’s house we had my little cousins running happily around us.  As you know, our intention for 2011 is to create our own babies so it was great to get some practice!

On New Year’s Eve, we went to the beach near our new home in Williamstown, Melbourne, to sit and watch the fireworks cascade over the city.  Fireworks are such a dramatic way to bring in the new year – they beckon excitement and wonder and I love relating them to business.  As each rocket exploded over the city, I imagined how many of your businesses will take off and explode into profit this year.

Profit comes with good planning and the right intentions.  If you want to set some intentions, now’s the perfect time to do it.  In the meantime, happy new year!

Gran’s 90th & Merry Christmas!

At my Business Planning events I do a visualisation process where I have people imagine their 90th birthday party… who is there, what they’ve achieved and what they are being celebrated for.  This last weekend I went down to Tasmania to celebrate my Grandmother’s 90th birthday.  It was so amazing and really got me thinking about legacy.

Here is this wonderful woman surrounded by hers: 4 children, 13 grandchildren, 11 great granchildren and another on the way next May.  As I was driving home from the airport I was chatting to my sister Kath, and Greg and commenting on how every single one of them is a pleasure to hang out with.  You know how in most families there’s at least one or two you try to avoid?  Well put the Pollards together and you have an instant party! (As the photos on Facebook show!).  Gran’s legacy really has been to set in motion a group of people who are gifted at leaving others a little happier that when they found them.  I’m sure that’s a Pollard thing!

So your legacy may be your family,or your business, or the impact you make in your community.  But with 2011 just around the corner it’s worth giving some thought on what you want to be known and celebrated for!

We also had an early Christmas with Mum and Roger as we won’t be in Tassie for Chrissie this year.  It’s an exciting one as my sister is pregnant with her first baby.  So next year there’ll be the pitter patter of little feet!

Wishing you all the very best for a joy and laughter-filled Christmas, and an exciting start to 2011.

From all of us at Shift we thank you so much for your support, and look forward to continuing to share your journey in the New Year.

May all your dreams come true!

Home from the Cruise…

Wow!  What a cruise that was! Greg and I spent 6 days cruising from New York to The Bahamas, sipping cocktails, dancing till dawn and hanging out with some of our MDM clients from Australia and our 7 Figure Speaking System clients from the UK.

It’s always so much fun to hang out with our clients and get to know them in a more informal setting.  And how much better can you get than cocktails by one of the many pools!

I was a little bit worried that all the cruise food would interfere with my Bridal Bootcamp regime… it’s just one month to the wedding after all!  But luckily there was a running track onboard so I managed a few laps first thing and also made great use of the gym… which overlooked the ocean.  How scenic can you get?

We’ve literally just stepped onshore so check out my facebook page for some cool photos.

I have to say it wasn’t all play, play, play. Greg and I always use the cruise as a great opportunity to consolidate the past year and re-align ourselves for the upcoming one.  We almost had a full team of Shift onboard with Jo H, Hannah, Daniel and Donna also sharing this journey with us to support us in co-creating an amazing year ahead.  So watch this space because 2011 is going to rock!  We’ve got so many exciting plans in store for you!

3 Quick Steps To Boost Your Vitality

What’s good health got to do with lifestyle?  Well, read on and find out…

“It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.
- Mahatma Gandhi

Speaking from a Doctor’s point of view good health is the cornerstone to everything.  It’s the founding bed for relationships, for business, for love and for life.  Ironically, there’s nothing like a bout of sickness to make one appreciate life.   Without good health there is nothing.

So, that’s why it’s important to not just stay healthy, but also to take active steps to live a healthier life in order to support your business.   If we equate good health with good vitality, in business terms, it’s this inner vitality that makes you brim with ideas, burst with passion, thrive on life.

These 3 easy to follow steps will help stay connected to your own inner powerhouse…

  1. May The Force Be With You
“The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.”
    - Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi – Star Wars Episode IV, A New Hope

Our energy is not just self-created.  If you believe, as I do, that we are connected to something greater than ourselves – connected to the Universe or source energy (however you wish to call it) – then this external energy is always there to call upon when we need it.

How do we summon this energy field?  The easiest way is through a daily meditation practice, visualisation techniques, or simply by taking a moment to be in nature. This is a great tip if you start to flag in the afternoon.  Think beyond your own existence and tap into that which is vaster than you.

  2. Water Is A Source Of Energy
“To keep the body in good health is a duty, for otherwise we shall not be able to trim the lamp of wisdom, and keep our mind strong and clear. Water surrounds the lotus flower, but does not wet its petals.”
    -  Buddha

Do what Doctor Joanna orders and drink plenty of water throughout the day.  Did you know that the human body is anywhere from 55% to 78% water depending on body size? A rule of thumb, 2/3 of body is consists of water, and it is the main component of human body. The functions of water in a human body are vital.
    • Transpsorts nutrients and oxygen into cells
    • Moisturizes the air in lungs
    • Helps with metabolism
    • Protects our vital organs
    • Helps our organs to absorb nutrients better
    • Regulates body temperature
    • Detoxifies
    • Protects and moisturizes our joints

Every cell in your body needs water from head to toe. That is why it is so important to drink enough fluid.  The brain for example, consists of 90% of water, if you do not supply enough water to your body, your brain cannot function well, and you will get a headache or migraine.  Not great for business…..

  3. Sleep Like A Cat.
“Eat well, drink in moderation, and sleep sound, in these three good health abound.”
    - Proverb

No, I didn’t mean actually miaow.  I mean have a cat-nap. An afternoon siesta is common practice in places like Spain and Italy. In our multitasking, high-pressure work environments, a cat-nap isn’t a sign of laziness. It’s necessary to our well-being and job performance.  If you’re lucky, some companies even tout a “wellness room” where you don’t have to hide your need for sleep.

A NASA study showed people got as much as a 34% boost in performance with a 26-minute cat-nap.  Why not give it a go and see if it restores your energy?

Bonus Tip – Love!

What I know is, is that if you do work that you love, and the work fulfills you, the rest will come.
- Oprah Winfrey

OK, so this is not really a tip.  It’s just I couldn’t go the whole article without mentioning love – not the way I am feeling right now!  In truth though, I’ve always spoken about following your heart in business   Connect with your passion, do what you love and the money will come.  Make time to listen to your heart today.  The more you pay it attention, the more you can follow its beat.

Summary
All of these tips are easy to implement now and don’t take any great lifestyle changes.  But they will affect your health and consequently, your lifestyle for the positive.  They’re 5 or 10 minute routines (or a bit longer for the snooze) and you can slip all of them easily into your daily working life.  Try it this week, and see if it makes a difference to your vitality.
